Caves with management committees or controlled by clubs or individuals
A number of caves are kept locked for various reasons including the conservation of their geology and protected species such as bats which may be present at various times of the year. Follow the cave management or club contacts in the site list below. In a few cases in the Forest of Dean, an individual controls access. Some caves have a leader system where either you approach a leader from a published list or the cave management committee will find a leader to help you.

All caving trips are to be accompanied by a Conservation Warden. Cavers who do not have direct contact with a Warden may contact the secretary at Dan yr Ogof Conservation Advisory Panel who will look for a Warden to volunteer to support their trip. With effect from 14 February 2022 all visiting cavers are required to pay a £5 conservation fee.
