Overnight backcountry permits/safety registration are required for all overnight activities in Kluane National Park and Reserve (with the exception of Kathleen Lake Campground) between April 1 and November 15.

Overnight camping is allowed without a permit from November 16 to March 31 except for the Kluane Icefields area.

All persons spending time within the Icefield Ranges of Kluane National Park and Reserve must have a mountaineering permit. An aircraft access permit must be obtained for each and every landing within the Icefields. Aircraft access permits are issued as part of your Mountaineering Permit. Insurance is required for all expeditions in the Icefield Ranges.
Climbing parties must apply in advance of their trip and all climbers are required to register. For permits beginning April 10 onwards, please submit your applications at minimum one month in advance of your intended departure.
Travel within the icefields is not permitted BETWEEN NOV 15 AND April 9.
